MAS-1100 Systems Terminology

This course provides a basic survey of the structure and function of body systems and the medical terminology used to describe normal and pathological states. Emphasis is on the study of word roots, prefixes, suffixes, eponyms, standard abbreviations related to each body system.
3 class hours.
Course Outcomes
  1. Construct medical terms from word elements.
  2. Define medical terms using the “word analysis” approach.
  3. Use correct forms of word plurals, nouns, adjectives, and verbs in constructing terms for various forms of communication.
  4. Identify the basic anatomical characteristics in each of the organ systems.
  5. Identify the basic functional characteristics in each of the organ systems.
  6. Identify the common diseases, therapies, and abnormalities of the organ systems.
  7. Utilize dictionaries, formularies, and other references to spell, define, and pronounce medical terms.
