TRF-2410 Advanced Audio Production


Credits 3
This course provides instruction on audio production for radio, podcasting, television, film, and emerging media.  Using the most contemporary equipment and techniques, students plan, produce, edit, and distribute multi-track, edited audio artwork.  Students examine several aspects of audio editing, including (but not limited to) legal parameters for podcasting, ethical responsibilities of adding audio to video, and the sociological impact of the effective use of natural sound, audio phasing, and balance manipulation.
3 class/2 lab hours.
Course Outcomes
 

  1. Describe the technological basis of sound connected to a mass mediated message.
  2. Identify major technical and artistic innovations in audio planning, recording, and playback for various platforms.
  3. Analyze the news and information functions of broadcasting and the major factors influencing the growth of audio broadcasting, including how society, culture and politics affect audio messaging.
  4. Analyze the legal and social controls on sound reproduction as it relates to radio, television, film, and emerging media.
  5. Conduct media research on a topic related to the field of audio production using appropriate research tools.
  6. Develop an audio project using design, technology, and artistic components of sound.
