ART-1530 Drawing I



Credits: 3
In this studio art course, students are introduced to basic drawing concepts, media, and their processes. Emphasis is on observational study and critical analysis of line, value, surface, shape and form, scale, proportions, perspective, space, and compositional design. Students focus on the study of observational representation, conceptual ideas, and individual expression. Students explore stages and development of a concept from sketches to a final drawing in addition to a variety of drawing media. Additionally, students articulate elements and principles of art and design through verbal and written critiques.


Course Outcomes
  1. Apply compositional skills that implement elements and principles of art and design using traditional and non-traditional ordering systems.
  2. Create original drawings from perceptual and direct observation with a variety of tools, materials and techniques.
  3. Critique subject, form, construction, and content of works of art using formal and conceptual analysis through verbal and written methods. 
  4. Construct drawings that utilize scale, proportion, and perspective. 
  5. Illustrate a range of line and value to define shape, structure, boundaries, and transitions.
  6. Demonstrate different stages and development of a concept from sketches to a final drawing.
