BLD-2330 NCCER Carpentry Level 3
Credits: 7 This course provides the third level of training of the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) curriculum in carpentry. Students gain an understanding of all aspects of carpentry required for concrete formwork. They acquire the skills and knowledge required to handle and place concrete; use rigging equipment; and build trenches, excavations, foundations, slabs-on-grade, vertical framework, horizontal framework, and tilt-up wall systems. Successful completion of the course earns students the NCCER Carpentry Level 3 credential.
This course is cross-listed with the following Continuing Education courses: CRP 318: Carpentry: Level 3, Part 1 AND CRP 319: Carpentry: Level 3, Part 2.
Prerequisite(s): BLD-2320 .
Course Outcomes
- Estimate the volume of concrete needed for a project.
- Demonstrate the selection, inspection, maintenance and safe usage of rigging equipment.
- Describe the techniques involved in working in and around excavations, including soil preparation, safety requirements and mitigation of groundwater.
- Create an assembly for reinforcing concrete, using appropriate cutting, bending, tying and lap splicing methods for reinforcement.
- Build a structure out of concrete with proper use of placing, leveling and finishing techniques.
- Demonstrate the installation techniques used in vertical, horizontal, foundation and slab-on-grade formwork and tilt-up wall systems.
