EGR-2200 Statics

Credits: 3
Principles of mechanics, including points, bodies, and assemblies in static equilibrium. Areas examined will include trusses, frames, beams, cables, machines, point and distributed loading, and moments of inertia, scalar, and vector analysis. More advanced topics will include deformable bodies and stress, strain, torsion, shear, bending, and fracture. Introduction to kinetics, kinematics, and strength of materials.

Prerequisite(s): EGR-1010  and PHY-2020  completed or concurrent.

Formerly: Engineering Mechanics.
Course Outcomes
  1. Analyze forces in 2D and 3D static structures using Newtonian mechanics.
  2. Analyze the reaction forces generated when structures are subjected to several forces and force distributions, using techniques of summing forces and summing moments.
  3. Analyze the forces in the elements of trusses when subjected to loads, using joint analysis or sectional analysis.
  4. Analyze reaction forces when simple frames or frames with slotted members are subjected to forces and moments.
  5. Construct shear and moment diagrams for beams.
  6. Calculate the centroids of various objects.
