ENT-2740 Digital Circuits
Credits: 4 Course covers digital circuits from simple gates to complex gate arrays (FPGA). Encoders, multiplexers, adders, counters, and flipflops, number systems, Boolean algebra, and combinatorial logic circuits are also covered.
Prerequisite(s): ENT-1730 .
Formerly: (Formerly ENT-1800. Students may not receive credit for both ENT-1800 and ENT-2740.) Course Outcomes
- Describe the decimal, binary, octal and hexadecimal numbering systems and ASCII code.
- Explain digital signals and switches in electronics circuits
- Explain the operation and use of AND, OR, Inverter, NAND, NOR as well as exclusive-NOR and exclusive-OR logic gates.
- Describe how Programmable Logic Devices are used to solve basic logic designs.
- Use Boolean algebra laws and rules and De Morgan’s theorem to simplify combinational logic circuits.
- Perform binary arithmetic operations.
- Explain operation of code converters, multiplexers and demultiplexers.
- Explain the circuit operation of flip-flops, registers, shift registers and counters.
