PMD-2020 Patient Assessment and Medical Emergencies II

Emphasizes advanced pathological concepts and principles in caring for patients experiencing medical emergencies in the pre-hospital environment related to respiratory, cardiac, neurological, endocrine, allergic, gastroenterological, urology and nephrology, hematology, obstetrical and gynecological, and psychiatric and behavioral issues. Lab focuses on advanced skill mastery in caring for these patients, including the continued development of critical thinking skills, and the development and implementation of treatment plans for patients with various disease states encountered in the pre-hospital environment. Continued attention is given to preparation for a role of EMS team leader, patient advocate and for entry-level practice as a paramedic professional in the pre-hospital environment.

Prerequisite(s): PMD-1030, PMD-2010, PMD-2030 and PMD-1100.

Corequisite(s): PMD-2040 and PMD-2200.

Apply the elements and principles of history taking and techniques of physical exam relevant to a clinically significant medical emergency, as prescribed in the current paramedic national education standards.
Apply the principles and elements of therapeutic communication, medical consultation, and documentation relevant to a clinically significant medical emergency, as prescribed in the current paramedic national education standards.
Apply the methods and elements of assessment and management of a clinically significant medical emergency, and the pathophysiological significance of the assessment findings, as prescribed in the current paramedic national education standards.
Identify the anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the major body systems relevant to a clinically significant medical emergency, as prescribed in the current paramedic national education standards.
