Physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and moral development of the adolescent, including discussion of different phases of adolescence.

Prerequisite(s): PSY-1010.

Course Outcomes

Apply the concepts and major theoretical perspectives in developmental psychology, including the biological, psychodynamic, behavioral and sociocultural.
Explain the physical, cognitive, social, emotional and moral changes that occur during the different phases of adolescence.
Contrast research methods used by developmental psychologists to study adolescence as a developmental period of the life span, including descriptive, experimental, cross-sectional, longitudinal and cross-sequential research designs.
Explain the period of adolescence from various social contexts: contemporary society, education, peer relationships, workplace and family entities.
Apply ethical principles used to protect minors “best interest of the child” status.
Distinguish the period of adolescence from various multicultural and cross-cultural perspectives.
Use information literacy skills to conduct research and produce individual/group papers, projects and presentations relevant to adolescent psychology.
