HUS-2040 Introduction to Social Work

This course introduces the ethics and common day-to-day duties associated with social work professionals. The course discusses the human rights and social justice advocacy that social work professionals advance as they serve as consultants, resource managers, and educators for their clients. Students will discuss methods practices that are commonly maintained by social workers as they seek to empower their clients.

Prerequisite(s): SOC-1010 or PSY-1010 or POS-1010 or ANT-1010.

Discuss major concepts, theories, and perspectives related to social work.
Discuss research methods and tools commonly employed by social work professionals in their intervention and advocacy efforts
Define the most common personal, social, ethical, and organizational issues social work professionals address in their work
Discuss the influence of culture on social structure and social intervention
Analyze research relating to social work and social problems
Identify the record keeping procedures that social work professionals most commonly have to abide by
