TRF-2410 Advanced Audio Production

In this course, students learn the technological foundations of sound and its connection to mass-mediated messages across radio, podcasting, television, film, and emerging media. They explore key technical and artistic innovations in audio planning, recording, and playback while analyzing how news, information, and storytelling functions evolve within broadcasting. Additionally, students examine the legal and social controls influencing sound reproduction and consider how culture, society, and politics shape audio messaging. Using appropriate scholarly tools, students research topics in audio production. They also apply design, technology, and artistic principles to create, edit, and distribute multi-track audio projects that demonstrate professional-level sound design and production skills.

Prerequisite(s): TRF-1410 with a C grade or higher or TRF-1330 with a C grade or higher

Course Outcomes
 

  1. Describe the technological basis of sound connected to a mass-mediated message.
  2. Identify major technical and artistic innovations in audio planning, recording, and playback for various platforms.
  3. Analyze the news and information functions of broadcasting and the major factors influencing the growth of audio broadcasting, including how society, culture and politics affect audio messaging.
  4. Analyze the legal and social controls on sound reproduction as it relates to radio, television, film, and emerging media.
  5. Conduct media research on a topic related to the field of audio production using appropriate research tools.
  6. Develop an audio project using design, technology, and artistic components of sound.
