HIM-2540 Principles and Applications of Medical Coding

The course focuses on medical code sets in various healthcare settings. Students utilize ICD-CM/PCS and CPT/HCPCS classification coding systems to abstract data for healthcare reimbursement. Emphasis is on using encoder and grouper software. Students examine how the accuracy of medical coding impacts reimbursement.
