Program Description


The Database Administration Certificate is designed for students with an interest in databases. The certificate in database administration provides students with a thorough theoretical and practical background in database concepts, languages and development with a specialization in database and design. The certificate includes robust hands-on learning through innovative lab courses focused on database administration and development as well as debugging of software.  Some of the credits earned in the Database Administration Certificate can be applied to the Information Technology Associate in Science (A.S) or Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degrees. Additionally, there are also job opportunities for those looking to enter the software development industry with this certificate.

Program Outcomes


Graduates of the Database Administration Certificate will be able to:

  1. Apply fundamental information technology concepts in order to use database management tools.
  2. Install database management software.
  3. Design database objects using SQL and PL/SQL.
  4. Analyze a computer information system.
  5. Troubleshoot database-related issues.
  6. Utilize database concepts in the information technology environment.

Transferability


Credit earned at any public institution in the state shall be transferable to any other institution if the:

  • Credit is from a college or university parallel course or program;
  • Grades in the block of courses transferred average 2.00 or higher; and
  • Acceptance of the credit is consistent with the policies of the receiving institution governing students following the  same program. Refer to ARTSYS at artweb.usmd.edu and the receiving institution’s catalog to select transferable courses.
