Program Description


The Theatre Design and Entertainment Technology, A.A. provides students with the foundational skills needed for the theatre design and entertainment technology fields. Students learn about past, present, and emerging theatre arts trends and how theatre contributes to social progress. Students examine the roles and functions of a variety of personnel found in the theatre design and entertainment technology field. Additionally, students have hands-on opportunities for learning the skills required for lighting, sound, scenery, costume design, and production. This degree prepares students for transfer to a 4-year institution.  

Program Outcomes


Graduates of the Theatre Design and Entertainment Technology, A.A. will be able to: 

  1. Classify the roles of the personnel and their functions found in theatre design and entertainment technology. 
  2. Perform skills required of lighting, sound, scenery, and costume design personnel. 
  3. Perform techniques required of production personnel. 
  4. Evaluate past, current, and emerging trends regarding theatre design and entertainment technology. 
  5. Examine the potential for progressive social change through theatre design and entertainment technology. 

Sequence of Study


Below are the required courses for your program arranged in a suggested sequence. Please note that the sequence does not include the English co-requisite course (EGL-0100S ) or any co-requisite MAT courses (MAT-0113C MAT-0114C MAT-0125C  and MAT-0135C  ). Required Courses (in expected order)


Program Total: 60 Credits


Transferability


Credit earned at any public institution in the state shall be transferable to any other institution if the:

  • Credit is from a college or university parallel course or program;
  • Grades in the block of courses transferred average 2.00 or higher; and
  • Acceptance of the credit is consistent with the policies of the receiving institution governing students following the  same program. Refer to ARTSYS at artweb.usmd.edu and the receiving institution’s catalog to select transferable courses.
