BLD-2340 NCCER Carpentry Level 4
Credits: 7 This course provides the fourth and final level of training of the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) curriculum in carpentry. Students gain an understanding of all aspects of the planning process that precedes the start of work on a construction site. They acquire the skills and knowledge required to lay out buildings on a site. They learn the techniques used in the construction of advanced roof, wall and stair systems, oxyfuel cutting and arc welding. Additionally, they learn the communication and problem-solving skills fundamental to crew leadership in the carpentry trade. Successful completion of the course earns students the NCCER Carpentry Level 4 credential.

Course Outcomes
- Explain the fundamental communication and problem-solving skills required for plumbing crew leadership on a job site.
- Execute the planning process that precedes the start of work on a construction site.
- Calculate length, distance and angle measurements to lay out a building on a site.
- Demonstrate the techniques involved in site layout of building lines, site and building elevations, and to transfer elevations up a structure.
- Demonstrate proper selection of materials and techniques used to construct advanced wall, roof and stair systems.
- Explain the safe operation and use of various pieces of construction equipment.
- Demonstrate the techniques for safe setup and use of oxyfuel cutting torches and arc welders.
