ENT-2810 CPU Architecture



Credits: 4
Course introduces the architecture and operation of the central processing unit (CPU) using 8-bit and 16-bit microprocessors. Programming concepts using assembly and machine languages are introduced. Topics related to memory organization, input/output interfacing, interrupt processing, and exception processing are explored.

Prerequisite(s): ENT-2740 .

Course Outcomes
  1. Explain how data flows in a microprocessor through RAM, ROM, I/O, instruction decoders, accumulators, program counters, address registers, arithmetic logic unit, and data registers.
  2. Predict the content of 6800 microprocessor registers after individual commands are executed.
  3. Use a microprocessor simulator to successfully create programs using the 6800 instruction set. 
  4. Create successful programs using the instruction set for Intel-based microprocessors.
  5. Create successful programs in assembly language.
