ART-1600 Ceramics I Credits 3 A beginner’s studio course designed to teach ceramics as a creative craft and art form. The student is encouraged to explore ceramics as a form of three-dimensional expression and to be actively engaged in the complex cycle of ceramic production; production of clay, construction of forms, decoration, and firing. Students are expected to acquire knowledge of and to test various glazes. 6 studio hours Course Outcomes
- Use the vocabulary of ceramic arts and 3-dimensional design.
- Create forms in clay through pinch, coil, slab, and wheel-throwing techniques.
- Apply ceramic glazes to bisqued work.
- Critique design, construction, and glazing of ceramic work.
- Analyze design, construction, and glazing of ceramic work.
