BIO-2100 Marine Biology

An introduction to marine ecosystems. Principles and processes that are common to all forms of life in the sea. Includes field trips to estuarine and marine habitats, such as the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic beaches, and to local exhibits, such as the National Aquarium in Baltimore and the National Zoo.
Prerequisite(s): BIO-1010 or equivalent
Course Outcomes
  1. Explain the characteristics of marine ecosystems and adaptations of marine organisms.
  2. Describe the importance of the world’s oceans to human survival.
  3. Demonstrate understanding of the fundamental principles used in marine ecology, especially as applied to interactions between humans and the marine environment.
  4. Demonstrate use of recent advances in exploration techniques and technology that are used to increase our knowledge of the marine environment.
