ESL-0105 English as a Second Language: Intermediate Reading

Acquainting nonnative speakers with American culture and idiomatic American English through reading and vocabulary development.  
Prerequisite(s): ESL-0081 and ESL-0100 with grade of C or higher, or placement by exam.
Formerly ESL-1050.
Course Outcomes
  1. Identify the main idea of an intermediate reading text.
  2. Locate specific information in an intermediate reading text.
  3. Infer the meaning of unfamiliar words by using context clues.
  4. Use text markers to infer meaning in an intermediate reading text.
  5. Use target vocabulary in a meaningful context.
  6. Identify the number of syllables and primary word stress in target vocabulary.
