ESL-0106 English as a Second Language: Advanced Reading

ESL-0106 is a course for nonnative speakers of American English with a focus on reading skills, word and study skills, vocabulary expansion, and summary writing. 
Prerequisite(s): ESL-0105, ESL-0102, or placement by exam.
Course Outcomes
  1. Identify the main idea of an advanced reading text.
  2. Locate specific information in an advanced reading text.
  3. Infer the meaning of unfamiliar words by using context clues.
  4. Use text markers to infer meaning in an advanced reading passage.
  5. Use target vocabulary in a meaningful context.
  6. Identify the number of syllables and primary word stress in target vocabulary.
