MUS-2150 Music Theory III Credits 3 Equivalent Hours 3 Continuation of MUS-1160 . In this course, students will continue with their studies of four-part choral writing including non-harmonic tones, various seventh chords, inversions, and modulations to explore all the harmonic functions as well as classical forms and new compositions created by students. Prerequisite(s): MUS-1160 with a grade of C or higher 6 lab hours. Course Outcomes
- Demonstrate fluency with the elements of advanced music theory as found in written and aural samples.
- Construct phrases in four-part chorale texture that include non-harmonic tones, seventh chords, inversions, and modulations to closely related keys.
- Identify key, meter, melodic scale degrees, non-harmonic tones, inversions, cadences, and form, through analysis of selected written examples.
- Rearrange an existing melody with harmonic accompaniment for various instruments or voices.
- Identify aurally and visually rhythmic patterns.
- Identify aurally and notate scales, modes, intervals (simple and compound), inverted triads and seventh chords, melodic scale degrees and harmonic progressions.
- Sing with solfeggio melodies that include chromatic alterations.
- Play intermediate keyboard excerpts.
