MUS-1290 APPLIED VOICE I Credits 2 Equivalent Hours 2 Private instruction in solo singing. Emphasis is placed on posture, breathing, phonation, resonance, vowel placement, and diction. These techniques are applied to the singing of standard, solo vocal literature. Students are required to attend a one-hour private lesson each week; pass a final jury exam; perform at two applied music seminars, and attend eight additional applied music seminars or approved departmental events.
Prerequisite(s): Permission of the department Course Outcomes
- Demonstrate an elementary vocal technique that includes correct posture, breathing, phonation, resonance, vowel placement, and diction.
- Accurately perform from memory at least two compositions from the solo, vocal literature, with piano accompaniment.
- Demonstrate emotional and stylistic characteristics suitable for solo vocal music, through vocal expression and appropriate gestures.
