MUS-1310 APPLIED WOODWINDS I Credits 2 Equivalent Hours 2 Private instruction in flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon or saxophone (the student concentrates on one instrument only). Emphasis is placed on posture, breathing, embouchure, tonguing, fingering, intonation and tone production. These techniques are applied to the playing of standard, solo woodwind literature. Students are required to attend a one-hour private lesson each week; pass a final jury exam; perform at two applied music seminars, and attend eight additional applied music seminars or approved departmental events.
Prerequisite(s): Permission of the department. Course Outcomes
- Demonstrate an elementary woodwind technique that includes correct posture, breathing, embouchure, tonguing, fingering, intonation and tone production.
- Accurately perform majors scales, etudes and one composition from the standard, solo woodwind literature.
- Display appropriate stage presence for a solo woodwind presentation.
