MUS-1320 APPLIED WOODWINDS II

Private instruction in flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon or saxophone (the student concentrates on one instrument only). Continuing emphasis is placed on posture, breathing, embouchure, tonguing, fingering, intonation and tone production. These techniques are applied to the playing of standard, solo woodwind literature.  Students are required to attend a one-hour private lesson each week; pass a final jury exam; perform at two applied music seminars, and attend eight additional applied music seminars or approved departmental events.

 

 
Prerequisite(s): MUS-1310 with a grade of “C” or better, and permission of the department.
Course Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate an intermediate woodwind technique that includes correct posture, breathing, embouchure, tonguing, fingering, intonation and tone production.
  2. Accurately perform various major scales, etudes and two compositions from the standard, solo woodwind literature.
  3. Display appropriate stage presence for a solo woodwind presentation.
