MUS-1340 APPLIED BRASS II

Private instruction in trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium and tuba (the student concentrates on one instrument only). Emphasis is placed on posture, breathing, embouchure, tonguing, fingering, slide position, intonation, and tone production. These techniques are applied to the playing of standard, solo brass literature.  Students are required to attend a one-hour private lesson each week, pass a final jury exam; perform at two applied music seminars, and attend eight additional applied music seminars or approved departmental events.

 
Prerequisite(s): MUS-1330 with a grade of “C” or better, and permission of the department.
Course Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate an intermediate brass technique that includes correct posture, breathing, embouchure, tonguing, fingering, slide position, intonation and tone production.
  2. Accurately perform major scales, etudes and two compositions from the standard, solo brass literature.
  3. Display appropriate stage presence for a solo brass presentation.
