MUS-1360 APPLIED STRING II Credits 2 Equivalent Hours 2 Private instruction in violin, viola, cello, string bass, classical guitar, electric guitar, and electric bass guitar. (the student concentrates on one instrument only). Continuing emphasis is placed on posture, fingering, bowing and/or plucking, intonation and tone production. These techniques are applied to the playing of standard, solo string literature. Students are required to attend a one-hour private lesson each week, pass a final jury exam, perform at two applied music seminars, and attend eight additional applied music seminars or approved departmental events. Prerequisite(s): MUS-1350 with a grade of “C” or better, and permission of the department. Course Outcomes
- Demonstrate an intermediate string technique that includes correct posture, fingering, bowing and/or plucking, intonation and tone production.
- Accurately perform major scales, etudes and two compositions from the standard, solo string literature.
- Display appropriate stage presence for a solo string presentation.
