NUR-1030 Reproductive Health Nursing


Credits 3
This course presents a holistic approach to the care of the childbearing family. Emphasis is on principles and application of theory when using the nursing process in care of clients during all phases of the childbearing cycle. Disorders and diseases affecting the female reproductive tract are included. Clinical settings include mother-baby units, labor and delivery, neonatal intensive care, OB/Women’s Health Clinics, OB/Women’s Health Community activities.

Corequisite(s): NUR-1040
15 weeks/1.5 class/5 clinical (for 9 weeks)/1.5 lab hours.
Course Outcomes
 

  1. Identify a plan of care to meet the physiological and psychological changes of the newborn from intrauterine to neonatal life.
  2. Define the physical and psychological changes, management options, nursing considerations, and nursing process to maintain the health and well-being of the antepartum client.
  3. Define the physical and psychological changes, management options, nursing considerations, and nursing process to maintain the health and well-being of the intrapartum client.
  4. Define the physical and psychological changes, management options, nursing considerations, and nursing process to maintain the health and well-being of the postpartum client.
  5. Identify selected disorders and diseases that affect a female reproductive system and related nursing care.
