PAR-2530 Tort Law

A study of state and federal law treating civil injury or damage to persons or property. Includes causes of action, defenses and remedies, intentional actions, negligence, strict liability and product liability.
Prerequisite(s): Reading Readiness .
Course Outcomes
 

  1. Discuss the evolution of tort law from intentional claims, through claims of negligence and strict liability, to modern hybrid torts.
  2. Differentiate fault-based torts from claims based on vicarious or strict liability.
  3. Evaluate traditional and modern torts in terms of their effectiveness in reaching the goals of tort law, including compensation, appropriate levels of deterrence and justice.
  4. Analyze tort cases in terms of elements of causes of action and applicable affirmative defenses.
