PAR-2650 Civil Litigation


Credits 3
A survey of the procedural rules and evidentiary principles that govern civil cases, from intake to final resolution. Students will follow case scenarios from beginning to end, and will draft complete sets of the legal documents associated with the case scenarios, as they progress through the federal and/or state litigation systems. 
Prerequisite(s): PAR-1510, PAR-2450, PAR-2510, PAR-2530, PAR-2540, or departmental permission. 45 credits and 2.0 GPA (Capstone)
Capstone Course(s): This is the culminating experience for the associate degree in Paralegal Studies. In addition to completing prerequisite courses, students must also have completed a minimum of 45 credits and all required paralegal (PAR) courses before enrolling in this course. A minimum GPA of 2.00 is also required.
Course Outcomes
 

  1. Explain the steps involved in the litigation of a civil case, from intake through appeal.
  2. Draft offensive and defensive pleadings.
  3. Outline effective and practical discovery plans.
  4. Prepare legal motions and supporting researched memoranda appropriate for filing in court.
