PMD-2010 Special Patient Populations


Credits 3
Analysis of special patient populations, including pediatric emergencies, geriatric emergencies, behavioral emergencies, substance abuse, and toxicology. Obstetric and gynecological disorders are reviewed as well as the management of the expectant mother, complications of labor, and normal/abnormal delivery.
Prerequisite(s): PMD-1000, PMD-1010, PMD-1020, and PMD-1050
Corequisite(s): PMD-1030, PMD-2030, and PMD-1100.
2 class/3 lab hours.
Course Outcomes
  1. Apply the elements and principles of history taking and techniques of physical exam relevant to a medical emergency in the special patient population, as prescribed by the current paramedic national education standards.
  2. Apply the methods and elements of assessment and management of a medical emergency in the special patient population, as prescribed by the current paramedic national education standards.
  3. Identify the anatomy and physiology, and pathophysiology, relevant to physical exam findings in a medical emergency in the special patient population, as prescribed by the current paramedic national education standards.
  4. Apply the principles and elements of therapeutic communication, medical consultation, and documentation relevant to a medical emergency in the special patient population, as prescribed by the current paramedic national education standards.
