POS-2010 Political Ideologies Credits 3 Political ideologies will study political ideas, philosophers, and movements, and how they have inspired mass political participation throughout the world, especially during the past several hundred years. Most of the ideologies to be studied emerged in what is often called the period of “Enlightenment,” a time when people came to believe that they could improve their conditions through direct political action. Among the ideologies to be studied are liberalism, conservatism, socialism, communism, fascism, and radical Islamism. Course Outcomes
- Define the terms and concepts in the study of political ideologies.
- Explain the historical context and political ideas of influential theorists in the development of these ideologies.
- Describe the role of leaders and followers in ideological movements.
- Distinguish between values and goals of democratic and non-democratic political ideologies.
