POS-2150 Introduction to Comparative Politics and Government

Comparative politics and government is a field within political science that analyzes the similarities and differences among political systems. This course examines the origins of the state, national identity, and forms of government in different societies. This course compares and contrasts political ideologies, institutions, and models of government including democratic and non-democratic systems.
Course Outcomes
  1. Define the terms and concepts in comparative politics and political science.
  2. Analyze the similarities and differences between and within political systems.
  3. Explain the features of democratic, communist, and authoritarian political systems throughout the world.
  4. Evaluate the use of power and authority in achieving political order and legitimacy.
