RAD-1500 Image Production & Imaging Equipment I

Introduction to radiographic imaging systems to include the X-ray tube, operating console and high-voltage generator. X-ray production, interactions of x-radiation with matter and radiographic image formation are explored. Controlling and influencing factors of radiographic image quality are studied in depth. This course prepares students for proper use of radiographic equipment to produce and evaluate diagnostic radiographic images in the clinical setting.

Course Outcomes

Identify the components of the x-ray circuit.
Identify the components of a diagnostic X-ray tube.
Outline the factors required to produce x-radiation to include characteristics of radiation.
Compare/contrast the interactions of x-ray photons with matter and their relationship to the resulting image.
Differentiate between those factors that affect the radiographic image quality.
Analyze the effects of scattered radiation on radiographic image quality and the methods used to control it.
Formulate radiographic techniques, including calculation of radiation exposure.
Describe radiation protection standards.
