RAD-2440 Radiation Biology & Protection Credits 3 Interactions of radiation with matter and biological effects associated with the use of ionizing radiation are presented. Focus is on radiation safety of patients and personnel based on the ALARA concept, NCRP recommendations and NRC and COMAR regulations. Health implications to present and future generations, radiosensitivity and manifestation and treatment of radiation sickness are discussed. Prerequisite(s): RAD-2410, RAD-2530, RAD-2580 Course Outcomes

- Analyze the effective dose limiting system.
- Differentiate between radiation quantities and units.
