RAD-2970 Computed Tomography Clinical

Designed for those students who want to transfer their didactic knowledge to the clinical setting. Students will work under the supervision of registered CT technologists and board certified radiologists as they perform CT examinations. Provides a base for completing some of the competency requirements for the ARRT post-primary CT certification examination.  Students are required to submit to a criminal background check, and provide documentation of current health assessment and CPR certification prior to clinical placement. Students must possess Current ARRT or NMTCB certification/registration and Maryland Licensure in an appropriate supporting discipline prior to beginning clinical education. Students will be required to complete mandatory clinical site safety and infection control training prior to beginning clinical education. Students will be required to purchase a subscription for a web-based clinical record documentation platform.  
Prerequisite(s): RAD-2960 within the past two years with a grade of C or higher
Course Outcomes
  1. Apply patient assessment, preparation, and management techniques necessary for CT imaging studies and contrast administration.
  2. Explain the effects of technical factors on patient dose and methods for reducing patient dose.
  3. Identify, via sectional anatomy, major structures of the head, neck, spine, and body.
  4. Select the appropriate imaging protocols for routine and minimally invasive CT procedures.
  5. Compare/contrast components on the CT console and their function.
  6. Explain the principles of CT image processing and reconstruction.
  7. Outline the steps of CT image acquisition, display, and storage.
  8. Perform basic recommended equipment quality control tests.
  9. Identify CT image artifacts.
