RAD-2990 Clinical Magnetic Resonance Credits 2 Designed for those students who want to transfer their didactic learning to the clinical setting. Students will work under the supervision of registered CT technologists and board certified radiologists as they perform MR examinations. Provides a base for completing some of the competency requirements for the ARRT post-primary MRI certification exam. Students are required to submit to a criminal background check, and provide documentation of current health assessment and CPR certification prior to clinical placement. Students must possess current ARRT from an appropriate supporting discipline and Maryland State licensure prior to beginning clinical education. Students will be required to complete mandatory clinical site safety and infection control training prior to beginning clinical education. Students will be required to purchase a subscription for a web-based clinical record documentation platform. Prerequisite(s): RAD-2950 , Cross Sectional Anatomy, or permission of Radiography Program Director; and RAD-2980 Magnetic Resonance Imaging within the past two years with a grade of C or higher. Course Outcomes
- Apply patient assessment, preparation, and management techniques necessary for MRI imaging studies and contrast administration.
- Explain the effects of radiofrequency and magnetism on the patient and public and necessary safety precautions.
- Identify, via sectional anatomy, major structures of the head, neck, spine, and body.
- Select the appropriate imaging protocols for routine and minimally invasive MRI procedures.
- Compare/contrast components on the MRI console and their function.
- Explain the principles of MRI image processing and reconstruction.
- Outline the steps of MRI image acquisition, display, and storage.
- Perform basic recommended equipment quality control tests
- Identify MRI image artifacts.
