RST-1730 Clinical Practice in Respiratory Therapy II Credits 2 Continued clinical practicum with emphasis on applying cardiopulmonary physiology and principles of diseases for the assessment and evaluation of procedures in general respiratory care. The student’s progress in the general care setting will be evaluated with the goal of introducing the student to the critical care setting during the latter part of this clinical rotation if demonstrated clinical skills in the general care setting are at the expected standard. Prerequisite(s): RST-1600, RST-1631, and RST-1741 with grade of C or higher 16 clinical hours per week. Course Outcomes
- Perform bedside respiratory assessment of the patient in general care with minimal assistance from the clinical instructor.
- Evaluate the medical record and laboratory data relative to the respiratory system.
- Formulate a treatment plan for respiratory care with minimal assistance from the clinical instructor.
- Perform respiratory therapy procedures utilized in the general care with minimal assistance from the clinical instructor.
- Set up respiratory therapy equipment utilized in the general care with minimal assistance from the clinical instructor.
- Identify causes of malfunction of respiratory therapy equipment utilized in the general care with minimal assistance from the clinical instructor.
- Demonstrate professional affective skills (organization, communication, time management, accurate documentation) in the general care clinical setting.
