RST-2530 Clinical Practice in Critical Care I Credits 4 This course will provide supervised clinical application of the principles and procedures of continuous mechanical ventilation in the critical care setting. Directed practice will include assessment, evaluation, analysis, and decision-making skills related to monitoring and management of the critically-ill patient. Prerequisite(s): RST-1730 completion with grade of C or higher Corequisite(s): RST-2500, RST-2490 16 clinical hours. Course Outcomes
- Perform bedside assessment of the respiratory system in the critical care setting with assistance from the clinical instructor.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of therapy with assistance from the clinical instructor.
- Develop a respiratory care plan with assistance from the clinical instructor.
- Perform respiratory therapy procedures utilized in the critical care setting with assistance from the clinical instructor.
- Set up non-invasive and invasive ventilation systems on critical care patients with assistance from the clinical instructor.
- Propose a plan to correct oxygenation and ventilation abnormalities with assistance from the clinical instructor.
- Differentiate between pressure and flow time scalars.
- Detect ventilator asynchrony.
- Demonstrate professional affective skills (organization, communication, time management, accurate documentation) in the critical care clinical setting.
