RST-2620 Trends in Respiratory Therapy

Advanced principles of respiratory therapy with emphasis on critical care concepts. Computer-assisted instruction with clinical simulations enhance student learning and preparation for NBRC Board Examination
Prerequisite(s): RST-2530, RST-2500 and RST-2490 with grade of C or higher
Corequisite(s): RST-2630
Course Outcomes
  1. Solve clinical simulation exercises designed to simulate patient management problems relevant to clinical practice in respiratory care.
  2. Differentiate between obstructive and restrictive pulmonarydisease from pulmonary function test results.
  3. Compare and contrast the role of a respiratory care practitioner in both the home care and hospital setting.
  4. Differentiate between respiratory therapy equipment used in home care and in the acute care setting.
  5. Evaluate the purpose of cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs for COPD patients.
  6. Substantiate the importance of quality assurance programs and procedures related to respiratory care.
