SOC-2030 Criminology

This course covers social and psychological concepts of criminal behavior and the chronic offender. Prominent criminological theories and schools of thought are explored to identify the social, economic, and psychological causes and explanations of criminal behavior.  Methodologies, data, and research tools used by sociologists and criminologists to study criminal behavior are discussed and applied.
Prerequisite(s): ANT-1010 , SOC-1010 , or PSY-1010 .
Course Outcomes
1. Apply criminology theories and schools of thought to present trends in crime and criminal behavior.

2. Evaluate research methods and tools used by sociologists to understand, explain, and categorize criminal behavior.

3. Apply ethical principles in analyzing and evaluating individual, social, and organizational issues in criminology.

4.Use critical thinking in information literacy to access and interpret criminal data.

5. Compare social justification of punishment among different cultures.

6. Explain the correlates of crime and social inequality in relation to demographics.
