SOC-2090 Sociology of Minorities Credits 3 Outlines the establishment, maintenance, and breakdown of dominant processes between and among ethnic, racial, and religious groups with emphasis on cross-cultural and cross-national patterns. Prerequisite(s): ANT-1030, POS-1010, SOC-1010, or PSY-1010. Course Outcomes
- Identify the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends in sociology as they relate to racial and ethnic minorities.
- Apply the scientific methods to understand and explain the perceptions and behavior of minorities.
- Apply ethics in evaluating personal, social, and organizational issues of racial and ethnic minorities.
- Utilize sociological principles in explaining policies that have facilitated or prevented racial and ethnic discrimination within the United States.
- Compare the influence of culture on the relationships between and among minority groups and dominant groups in the United States and other countries.
