TED-2001 Field Experience for Foundations of Education Credits 1 In this course students observe a teacher in an elementary, middle, and high school. Students become familiar with how a school system functions and with how teachers and schools address a variety of educational issues. Students observe 15 hours (5 hours each) in an elementary, middle and high school. In addition to the time spent at each school, students meet on campus throughout the semester. Prerequisite(s): TED-2000 completed or concurrent Formerly EDU-2330. Course Outcomes
- Complete a portfolio that includes work sheets that have guided their observations of historical, philosophical, political, and sociological factors affecting schools in general and the schools observed in particular.
- Write and reflect about their personal philosophy of teaching, and the value of and their plans for lifelong learning.
- Understand, articulate, and exemplify principles of professional practice for educators.
- Show how foundational principles of education are applicable to selected elementary, middle and high schools.
- Achieve satisfactory or superior ratings from their mentor teachers on dimensions of professionalism, communication skills, flexibility, and ethics.
