TED-2840 Elementary Methods

This course provides students with an overview of teaching methodology for effective instruction in elementary classrooms. Opportunities are provided for planning and practicing instruction based on a knowledge of the theory and research supporting these strategies. Students focus on developing reflective practice and how to foster collaboration problem solving with colleagues.

Course Outcomes
 

  1. Explain the relationship of current research to best teaching practices.
  2. Describe a variety of teaching and behavioral strategies to motivate students and create a positive classroom climate.
  3. Describe strategies teachers can implement to support the differentiated classroom as it impacts student learning in culturally diverse classrooms across all content areas in the elementary school.
  4. Explain how to use multiple models of instruction and instructional strategies to accomplish particular learning goals and to meet the needs of all learners, both as individual teachers and as part of a collaborative team.
  5. Discuss the role of assessment in the elementary classroom and school.
  6. Reflect upon topics related to the teaching-learning process, with attention to planning, implementation, management, and assessment.
