TED-2900 Special Education Methods: Birth - 12th Grade Credits 3 This course will focus on effective practices in a variety of settings with all disability groups, as well as collaboration with other involved professionals and parents. Students will learn and use a variety of classroom methods and strategies, including organizational, teaching, and classroom management, that are appropriate for children and adolescents from birth through 12th grade. This course is intended for those persons who have a bachelor’s degree and are seeking initial teacher certification, and for teachers seeking recertification. Prerequisite(s): Departmental permission required. Formerly (EDU 2200) Course Outcomes
- Discuss a variety of service delivery models used for students with disabilities.
- Explain the laws and current practices that relate to the education of students with disabilities.
- Describe methods of managing the learning and classroom environment for students with disabilities.
- Plan activities and lessons for classes with diverse student needs, including the use of accommodations and modifications.
- Design parts of an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) for specific children.
- Explain the process of and strategies for transition to elementary, middle, high school, and post-secondary life.
- Describe how to plan and collaborate with families and other professionals when working with students with disabilities.
