PHL-2700 Sports in American Society

This course investigates the many facets of the relationship between sports and American society. It includes analysis of this relationship from different fields of study, such as philosophy, literature, history, politics, and art. It synthesizes student skills from different disciplines in the context of the relationship between American society and its sports.
Prerequisite(s): PHL 1010, 1090 or 1330, or permission of instructor
Capstone Course(s): Yes.
Course Outcomes
  1. Identify key features, terms, and concepts related to Sports in American Society.
  2. Demonstrate abilities to conduct and edit research material in fields related to Sports in American Society; use such materials properly in the construction of course assessments.
  3. Synthesize information and content relevant to the relationship between sports and American society from various academic disciplines.
  4. Apply the student core competencies of communication, scientific and quantitative reasoning, critical reasoning, information literacy, culture, and ethics to the topic of Sports in American Society through the construction of a culminating project.
  5. Analyze perspectives on key issues relevant to Sports in American Society as appropriate to the student’s specific general studies concentration.
