MAS-2300 Pharmacology for Allied Health


Credits 4
Introduction to medication classifications according to body system. Focuses on the connection between pharmacology and related pathologies and disease processes. Emphasis is placed on patient safety, medication classification and administration. Students learn laws pertaining to Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), pharmacy symbols and abbreviations, drug calculations, and patient education related to medication compliance and achieving optimal efficacy.
Prerequisite(s): MAS-1100 with grade of C or higher completed or concurrent; or permission of program director.
Course Outcomes
  1. Define the stages of drug development and testing
  2. Identify characteristics of common disease processes
  3. Connect common disease processes to the appropriate medication.
  4. Define the legal guidelines for dispensing medications
  5. Categorize drugs related to body system
  6. Identify concepts of patient education
  7. Identify concepts of patient safety and compliance related to dispensing common medications
