NUM-2470 Advanced Molecular Imaging Concepts

In this course, participants are introduced to advanced imaging techniques that represent the state of the field of molecular imaging. Specifically, participants learn the theory and concepts of PET, CT, and MRI imaging technology, instrumentation, and procedures. This course is designed to prepare participants for the specialty PET and CT certifications offered by the NMTCB, as well as content on current versions of the nuclear medicine exams offered by the ARRT and NMTCB.
Prerequisite(s): NUM-1460  and NUM-2650   - both with grade of C or higher.
Course Outcomes
  1. Select the appropriate instrument(s) and parameters for imaging procedures performed on various body systems.
  2. Identify indications/contraindications for imaging procedures for tumor localization and the listed body systems.
  3. Select the correct radio-tracer(s), contrast(s), and administration methods for tumor localization and the listed body systems.
  4. Differentiate between normal vs. abnormal PET/CT tomographic images, including image artifacts.
  5. Identify pathology commonly detected with PET/CT imaging.
  6. Evaluate a patient’s history, laboratory results, and symptoms for relevance to PET/CT imaging.
  7. Identify components and operating principles of PET, CT, MRI, and hybrid imaging systems.
  8. Evaluate quantitative and qualitative QC results and identify acceptable and unacceptable values/artifacts.
  9. Explain the impact of patient preparation on the procedure, imaging, and quantitative data.
