MUS-2000 Music Business & Entrepreneurship

Music Business & Entrepreneurship will give the student an overview of the music industry, the role of a producer, the essentials of a sound business plan. The student will build and plan the components of a business plan and strategies for success. The student will discover the different ways to find employment and how to prepare the tools to land that first job. Students will also be exposed the record companies, streaming services along with copyright and trademark. Students will also work through the different methods of using social media to enhance and promote their brand
Course Outcomes
1 Explain basic music industry principles of songwriting to include copyright, publishing, and performance rights 2 Explain the business of live performance to include artist management, unions and guilds, entertainment agencies, and venues 3 Identify the record industry systems used by record producers, recording studios, manufacturing production, and distribution companies 4 Explain the use of contracts and licenses in the music industry. 5 Discuss the role of social media in the development of a career or personal/professional brand. 6. Explore career opportunities in the music industry
