PRJ-2000 News Writing for Public Relations

This course explores the research, planning, implementation, and evaluation cycle pertaining to news writing in public relations with a focus on writing collateral, including memos, newsletters, advisories, interview materials, and new releases. The course considers strategies, tactics, and public relations law as it applies to different mediums of communication in the context of corporations, the entertainment industry, non-profit organizations, and the political and government field. This course also examines the evolution of public relations regarding professionalism and ethics.
Prerequisite(s): Reading Readiness or ESL-0106  (formerly ESL-1060) with a grade of C or higher.
Course Outcomes
1. Explain the evolution of public relations and news writing in regard to professionalism and ethics

2. Examine the elements and processes embedded in the research, planning, implementation, and evaluation cycles pertaining to public relations and news writing

3. Create collateral within the elements and processes embedded in the research, planning, implementation, and evaluation cycles pertaining to public relations and new writing

4. Recognize public relations and news writing strategy through persuasion and public opinion, focusing on conflict management and public relations law

5. Recognize public relations and news writing tactics through social media, mass media, virtual, and face-to-face events

6.Differentiate local and global public relations and news writing through the lens of corporations, entertainment, politics, and government
