TED-2301 Field Experience for Introduction to Special Education


Credits 1
In this course students observe special education practices in a school at the level at which they want to be certified. Students apply the concepts learned in TED-2300 Introduction to Special Education to the process of teaching and learning. Students observe 15 hours at the school. In addition to the time spent at the school, students meet on campus throughout the semester. 
Prerequisite(s): TED-2300  completed or concurrent.

Course Outcomes
 

  1. Complete a portfolio that shows and explains approaches to learning and teaching for students with special needs.
  2. Classify the construction of curriculum as it is responsive to developmental, cultural, and social needs of children.
  3. Understand, articulate, and exemplify principles of professional practice for educators.
  4. Describe different approaches to teaching and of methods specific to the approaches selected.
  5. Achieve satisfactory or superior ratings from their mentor teachers on dimensions of professionalism, communication skills, flexibility, and ethics.
  6. Describe various exceptionalities and individual differences and how culture and experience affect these.
