ANT-1030 Introduction to Cultural Anthropology

Anthropological approaches to culture, language and social organization, including religious belief, gender role, family form and economic life.  
Course Outcomes
  1. Identify the focal interests and primary research methods of anthropology and its subfields with a focus on cultural anthropology.
  2. Analyze the function of ethnography and ethnology and the role of ethics in anthropological research.
  3. Evaluate the role culture plays in creating and sustaining subsistence patterns, kinship, language, identity, political integration, religion, human diversity and the modern world system.
  4. Distinguish among basic cultural anthropological terms and concepts relative to cultural anthropology.
  5. Evaluate how anthropology can be applied to solving human problems.
